Google May Acquire Yelp

There are news that Google is going to become a media company when it buys Yelp. It is rumored that Yelp might be acquired for half a billion US dollars. Google has recently acquired AdMob, a popular mobile advertising platform, for US$750 million.

Replacing MTV – YouTube’s Vevo is the Hulu of Music Videos

9 December 2009 5 comments

Where can you find Google’s Eric Schmidt, Bono, 50 Cent, Rihanna, and almost all the big boys in the music industry sharing one stage? Vevo launch.

If you’ve seen the Vevo promo featuring rapper 50 Cent bashing in TV screens with a baseball bat, then it’s pretty easy to understand what the video site is trying to accomplish: replace the TV as the new place to get all your music video needs.

Vevo is backed by YouTube with content partnerships with Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, EMI Music, AT&T, and CBS Interactive Music Group. So far, Vevo offers over 14,500 videos from 5,000-plus artists for more than 20 genres.

Its interface is similar to Hulu, with a dynamic banner promoting Vevo’s featured content, a section below showing off top videos, links on the top of the page offering different ways to browse through videos, and a search field to look up content by keyword. On Vevo you’ll find videos that have just premiered, such as Mariah Carey’s “H.A.T.E.U.” and hits form back in the day, like the full, 13-minute Michael Jackson “Thriller” video.
